Me? No, though I’ve spent some time there. I’m from Unova.
A trainer, you don’t say? …Are you strong?
“Huh. Looks like there’s a bunch of guys from over there.
Cool! Unova seems to have a lot of trainers.”
“Of course I am. You’re speakin’ to Johto’s best.”
Y- yes, there’s… quite a few of us. It’s not like that in your region?
‘Johto’s best’, you say… you’re not the Champion?
posted 2 weeks ago[ He remembers whimpering and begging desperately, blindly obeying orders, and tightens his hold on Cheren, fighting down the nausea and disgust at the memory. Not the time, he tells himself. Just enjoy the time with Cheren, and ignore the guilt and the bad memories that filled him. ] … No, I’m definitely not Simba. That’s you, remember? You are brave, strong, kind and determined, you’re a lot better than you think, you want to be great - and you will be. You would be a good King of the Pridelands, I think. [ He places a hand over one of Cheren’s, intertwining their fingers ] … Besides, you would look cute with floppy ears.[ Touya watches as the Shinx talks to the shiny Luxray, oblivious to the manipulation, and once more he finds himself thinking about how much more scary Scar seems - no, that’s ridiculous, it’s just an animation movie and Touya needs to stop being so paranoid. He squeezes Cheren’s hand lightly, pressing a little closer. ]
Mmm. [ He makes a noncommittal noise in the back of his throat and rolls his head back to rest against the wall, bringing his hand up to stroke Touya’s hair. His other hand squeezes Touya’s back, and he gives him a little lopsided smile side-on. ] Wanting to be great, huh? I wonder. Maybe I’d be content with just being Zazu after all… flapping around being uppity but helpful. It’s what I’ve proved myself best at. [ He’s not really invested in the conversation - he can feel Touya tensing slightly with Scar’s manipulation, and is reminded once again, full force, of how fragile Touya’s become. He’s only talking to ease the tension, to try and distract Touya from any fear or discomfort.
Maybe the Luxray King wasn’t the best choice? Not that Cheren’s the type to cry at movies, but Mufasa’s death scene…
He hesitates, then pulls Touya onto his lap, wraps his arms around his stomach and rests his head on his shoulder, kissing his cheek again, trying to help the boy feel a little more secure. ]
posted 2 weeks ago[Touya closes his eyes briefly as Cheren chuckles, nuzzling his shoulder softly. It’s good to hear him laughing again. He had sort of hoped that it would do it - it seemed like it had been way too long since he had seen Cheren laughing. He watches as Mufasa shows Simba the Pridelands, somewhat distracted. It’s a little hard to focus on the movie when he is fighting the urge to snuggle closer to Cheren, and the urge to just go to sleep. ]
… Nala? No, I don’t think so. I’m hardly like her at all. [ He nuzzles Cheren again, thinking. Which character of the movie could he even identify himself as?… He is weak, scared and frail. Sighing a little, he shakes his head slightly, pressing another kiss to Cheren’s cheek ] I don’t think I’m like any character in this movie, actually.
[ A soft, pleasant warmth spreads through Cheren as Touya nuzzles him, and he fights the urge to simply pull the boy into his lap, bury his face in his shoulder and let himself doze off. Now that he has him back, all he wants is to be as close to him as possible. Onscreen, Zazu delivers the morning report, puns aplenty, and Cheren lets his head rest against Touya’s, not opening his eyes. He thinks less about Donphan who refuse to forget and more still about what it will be like to sleep beside Touya in a proper bed, for the first time in his life. He smiles to himself, all but unaware that Simba has just pounced Zazu to riotous laughter from his father. Home. Touya. Home. Touya. ]
Certainly you are. Let’s see - you’re brave, tough, kind and compassionate, idealistic and you’ve gone through a lot… reluctant hero weighed down by sense of responsibility and the expectations of others… far more competent than you’d care to admit… [ He opens one eye and looks down at Touya, then tweaks his nose ] Not to mention the floppy ears and the tail, and the little roar that might scare a little desert Pokemon… [ Then he grins and leans forward and kisses his forehead ] …well, if anyone, you might be Simba after all.
posted 3 weeks ago[ Touya watches the beginning of the movie intently, nostalgia filling him as soon as it started. He feels Cheren relaxing a little against him and pressing another kiss to the top of his head and, with a small sigh, he wraps his arms around Cheren again. ]… It really is good. [ Nothing happened, he tells himself, but even as he does, it feels almost surreal to be sitting in his room, watching a movie with Cheren. Almost too good to be true. He tightens his hold on Cheren, turning his head to press a small kiss to his shoulder. ]
I missed you. [ I didn’t think I’d get the chance to do this kind of thing with you again. He presses a little closer to him, closing his eyes for a moment before looking back at the screen ]
[ Life’s not fair, is it? drawls a lethargic shiny Luxray to the Rattata on screen, electricity buzzing in the terrified rodent’s whiskers. I shall never be king… and you shall never see the light of another day… Cheren smiles slightly, a little flutter of affection and excitement stealing through him at Touya’s kiss, and inclines his head. Careful fingers stroke up and down Touya’s waist, keeping him close. ]
Yeah. I missed you, too. [ After so long sleeping in unfamiliar cities, travelling alone, pushing himself to the limit - after so long blaming himself for all of their misfortune - losing Bianca, Roark, Wallace - it’s almost hard to believe he’s found himself back at the beginning, in the tiny town where it all began, with the very boy who’d motivated him to get stronger and prove himself in the first place. With Touya. Sad Touya, yes; exhausted Touya, afraid Touya, but Touya who loves him and wants him and needs him. Touya who’s been to hell and back. Touya who still laughs at Cheren’s stupid, long-winded jokes and finds time to play with his Pokemon and whose favourite movie is The Luxray King.
He’d make an excellent throwrug, Zazu the Chatot says to the King onscreen, and just think! When he gets dirty, you could take him out and beat him.
Cheren closes his eyes a moment, allowing himself to be lost in the absurdity and the bliss of the situation. The eye of the storm, perhaps, but a few moments of quiet. A few moments to hold Touya and watch animated Shinx sing about monarchical fun. A few moments to relax. He holds Touya a little tighter, a little closer. His voice is meandering and vague, and he trips over a few words, only half there. ]
It’s probably terrible, but the only character in this movie I ever identified with was Zazu. Even now, I can see myself singing “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” to Touko someday, while she reigns as Champion.
[ Touya relaxes further against Cheren’s side as he strokes his waist, so softly, so carefully. It’s comforting, and makes him feel at ease, calmer than he has felt in a long time, and he finds himself struggling to keep himself awake. He is tired, more than he cares to admit - these last days (weeks?) seem like a blur. Fear, weariness, pain, darkness, panic - and now warmth, safety. Frustration and anger at himself, yes, but he is better than he has been in what seems like a long, long time.
He turns his attention back to the movie. Scar seems more scary than usual for some reason, but he pushes that to the back of his mind when Mufasa appears. He feels Cheren tightening his hold on him, holding him closer. ]
Hmm… I really like Zazu. [ He glances at Cheren, biting his lip for a moment ] You do remind me of him sometimes, but I don’t think you’re like him. I think you are more like Simba. [ On screen, the Shinx excitedly wakes up his father ] … Maybe calmer, but still Simba.
[ Cheren looks back at him, grinning slightly at the first bit - of course Touya likes Zazu - and then chuckling out loud at the Simba comparison. Simba the Luxray King, who spends his entire adolescence eating insects and shirking all his responsibilities, then comes back and throws his uncle into a pit of fire to be killed by angry Poochyena and Mightyena. - but, well, the Pridelands did prosper under his rule…
What about that shadowy place? asks Simba onscreen, and Cheren closes his eyes again and stops trying to analyse cartoon characters, wondering vaguely whether he’d rather rule the Pridelands or fly around listing synonyms for ‘engaged’ and being helpful to the King. Perhaps it’s a sign of how much he’s changed that he thinks Zazu’s job sounds better anyway.
Touya’s relaxing against him and he doesn’t want to think anymore, just wants to stay like this - calm and warm and safe - forever. Haven’t they earned it by now? ]
Does that make you Nala? We all know she’s the one who really saves the day.

My name’s Cheren. I’m a trainer from Nuvema Town. It’s a pleasure.
“Nice to meetcha, I’m a trainer myself. Not from Johto, I take it.”
Me? No, though I’ve spent some time there. I’m from Unova.
